Super Pet Expo 2012

This past weekend we took Zoe to the Super Pet Expo in Chantilly, VA, this was the second year we attended the event. The Super Pet Expo is a pet friendly event where all types of vendors display and sell their products.

There were so many dogs of all sizes and breeds, from the smallest Chihuahuas to the biggest Mastiffs. Zoe sure had a great time, she wanted to play with every single dog she encountered, she made lots of new friends that day.

This time I remember to bring the camera with me, so I got a few shots of the dogs, enjoy.

Honey – rescue ready for adoption

This past Saturday we met Honey, a Finnish Spitz Mix who is looking for her forever home.

Excerpt from her Petfinder page

Honey is just like her name she has a beautiful disposition, is a beautiful color, and is the perfect size for a companion animal. She is a lovely medium/small Finnish Spitz-type dog. She’s very happy to cuddle up at your feet with a stuffed animal, definitely likes older kids, looks on guinea pigs with disinterest (which is good for the guinea pigs) and would love to have a stay-at-home parent or companion boy-dog. She’s about 5-years old, spayed, and very sweet. She knows the commands Sit, Give Paw, and (most adorably) Kiss. She prefers to sleep in a bed with someone and really, really, really doesn’t like being crated.

UPDATE 2/17/12 – I received an email today with great news from her foster mom, Honey has been adopted.

Zoe’s Birthday

Yesterday our fur baby Zoe turned one, and we had a huge celebration in the house, Voula baked a caked for her and we had party hats and balloons. Zoe also received a birthday present, a new martingale collar with pink skulls, and of course she looked good with it on. We setup our equipment and did a photoshoot with her, she was very patient, and as a reward she got to eat the cake.

Meech

Last Saturday I had a mini session with Meech, a young, very playful and full of energy Pit Bull. I had a lot of fun photographing him, the one thing that amazed me about him was how high he can jump, you can see him jumping on the first photo below.

Hazel

The same day I did the photoshoot with Gotti I also shot a few photos of Hazel, the family cat. Hazel came to the family 10 years ago as a rescue, he was only a few weeks old when my sister got him, he was so small that for the first week we had to hand feed him with a spoon. He grew up to be a very beautiful cat, independent and very intelligent. In his younger days he would do everything he could to get out of the house, and no matter what my family did he escaped almost everyday, but now he is a mainly indoor cat.

Gotti

This has been the most difficult shoot to date for me, because this one was about a great dog that I held close to my heart. I went to visit my sister a few weeks ago and I was given the bad news about their Rottweiler, Gotti. A cancerous tumor was found on his shoulder, and because of that they were going to have to put Gotti to sleep. The cancer had spread beyond his shoulder to other parts of his body causing him to be in a lot of pain. It was a decision made with the best intentions for Gotti. It was very difficult, especially for my brother-in-law who has been battling colon cancer for the last couple of years.

I remember the day when they brought Gotti to their house, almost seven years ago. He was only a couple of months old, almost the same age as my nephew Jordan. He was a very sweet and playful puppy. As he grew he became a great and very obedient dog, still sweet to the people he knew, wary of strangers but never aggressive. Sometimes people felt intimidated by him because of his size, but once they got to know him they all fell in love with him.
The day of the photo shoot Gotti was as happy as ever, not moving much but still wagging his tail, and smiling for the camera. While I was shooting, memories of him kept rushing back to me, the days I spent training him, and playing with him and Jordan in the backyard. I remember when he was on his bed and he would growl at his rear leg, not sure why but I always thought that he believed his rear leg belonged to another dog that was trying to take his bed from him, lol. He was a little crazy at times, but he was a great and loving dog.

Gotti was huge part of the family and he will be missed immensely.

RIP Gotti.

Strut Your Mutt Festival 2011

On May 21 I went to Bethesda, MD for the Strut Your Mutt Festival, it was a great event, hundreds of dogs and their humans came for a day of fun in this beautiful spring day. All kinds of vendors and rescues were present, hopefully I will have a booth for next year’s festival. Zoe was not feeling well so I couldn’t bring her with me, I was a little down because of it, she would had loved it there.

I took lots of photos of all the beautiful dogs at the festival, but have to say that this little bulldog pup won my heart, I seriously wanted to bring him home with me. Enjoy.
